Fresh palm wine

Jason and I finally had palm wine today, something we've been meaning to try for a while.
Despite the expression on my face in the picture, I'm pouring the first glass here. I never can tell when Jason's actually taking a photo with his camera, so I never know when to make my most photogenic smile!
Our office was without power all day today apparently due to load shedding (those rotating blackouts). Usually we run on generator, but today our diesel generator broke down, apparently because it ran out of fuel, which created major problems so it needed parts, etc. etc.. So: no computers, no lights, no presses.
Anyway, today's the day the page I edit goes to bed (as they say in the biz) so I had to hang around until the generator was fixed or the power returned to get my article off my portable drive and lay out the page.
It took about five or six hours to work out, but eventually we got the power back, so tomorrow's paper will have my hot story on the Gay and Lesbian Association of Ghana and the international conference that never was. (!!) I'm sure the article will cause quite a stir both in and out of the newsroom.
While we were waiting for the return of power, Jason made the trek out so we could check out the restaurant next to my workplace, which I've always thought looked very enticing, although apparently no-one from work eats there.
It was fabulous! Palm wine is a bit meady, a bit coconutty. But very nice. The food was good, too. We'll definitely go back.
