It's Hockey Season.

Well at home anyway.

Here, there are no games, and if I could find a television that would/could show the games, the time difference means I'd be watching in the middle of the night.

So, in order to keep up, I have signed up a team at the CBC fantasy league. I also started my own private league, so you can join me in our own little competition!

I will try to send emails using their system to invite a few people. But you can join even without an invitation, using CBC's slightly-more-complicated-than necessary system. Here's how:

1. Go to the website.
2. Hit "Registration" and fill in the required contact information. You can give yourself a fake name or whatnot if you don't want to give CBC all that info about you.
3. Give your team a name, preferably one so we'll know who you are (especially if you gave fake identity information in step 2).
4. Under "League" on the next page, hit "directory."
5. Search for the "West Africa" league, and when it turns up in the list, hit "join."
6. The password is "iginla." As in Jerome who is, I believe, half Nigerian.
7. Now pick your players! That's it, you're in!

Here in Ghana, I've been keeping my own sort of score. I've been told that Canada's number one export to Ghana is second-hand clothing. Occasionally I see hockey merchandise worn by the locals, and I've been keeping score:

Maple Leafs: 2. One t-shirt and one tuque.
Canadians: 2. One t-shirt and one baseball cap.
Penguins: 1. One jersey, number 66 of course.

For weeks I saw the same Red Wings Jersey hanging at the same second-hand clothing stall. But then it disappeared, so it doesn't count -- it has to be worn.

I've already joined.

Although the salary cap left me picking some players totally at random, I'm confident "Wendy's Winners" are prepared to take on all comers.

Shouldn't we wager some money on this little venture?

I'm willing to put in 8,000.

Cedis, that is -- that's one fat dollar in Canadian funds. Anyone else want in on the big money?
